Letters to Strangers
a salute to those who leave a mark
Dear Everyone Who Grew Up Without a Mother,
I ache for you.
Not all the time. Not often enough. But once in a while, especially when I think back on something sweet between my mother and me.
Like the time she took me to a fancy boutique for my first real makeup lesson. The woman was an artist and she helped lay the foundation, if you’ll forgive me, for a lifetime of classy. Not exclusively, mind you. But much more consistently, thanks to my mom’s sweet gesture.
Who did that for you? Where did you go for the delicate conversations? How did you navigate the big milestones? It hurts to type those questions. I can’t imagine living them.
The two of you I know personally, who happen to read these posts, are in the top ten most impressive women I’ve ever heard of -- let alone been friends with. I’m in awe.
And I thought you should know.
xoxo
